Advance Energetics and Disablement
Home made explosives (HME) have become more and more prevalent on the battlefield today, both domestically and overseas. Fully understanding the risks and tool options are critical when Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) contain HME or when EOD Technicians must eliminate hazards associated with HME during Combat Exploitation (CE).
The Zero Point AED course is 5 days of instruction consisting of 1.5 days of classroom and 3.5 days of practical instruction. This course provides training and information to increase an EOD Operator’s ability to handle, test, identify, neutralize, render safe and dispose of explosive compounds used in IED’s across the operational spectrum.
Training Topics
- HME Threat Assessment and threat indicators
- Combat Exploitation Techniques and Equipment
- Precursor chemicals and associated hazards
- Explosive compounds and associated hazards
- Equipment and procedures used to produce energetic compounds
- Neutralization techniques to desensitize or dispose of materials
- Identification of HME and precursor materials
- Disruption and X-ray against HME
- Synthesis/mixing procedures for all the HME of interest to include TATP, HMTD, Urea Nitrate, R-Salt, ETN, NG, Ammonium Nitrate based, Chlorate based, Nitro-Methane based and Concentrated Hydrogen Peroxide Organic Material (HPOM)
